April is National Car Care Month, and we are here at Conicelli to answer all of your vehicle service questions! Have you ever been uncertain as to whether your tires need replacing? We can get so busy that making sure to thoroughly check our tires may fall to the wayside. If you think it has been a while, check out these tips to determine whether it is time for new tires:

Weathering
The first thing to look for on your tires are signs of weathering. Tires are constantly exposed to the elements so the rubber will naturally break down over time. Indicators of weathering are typically fine cracks in the sidewall and in between the tread blocks. If these are visible, it is time for new tires.

Bulging
A bulge is caused by air getting between the inner liner of the tire and the outer material layers, which forms an air pocket. Bulging typically happens after hitting a pothole or curb. Manufacturer's defects can also cause this, but are less common. A bulge can rupture and cause serious damage or injury if not addressed.

Vibrations
Vibrations are an indicator of various tire problems. A major tire issue that can cause vibrations is when the belts of the tire shift or separate. This produces a lumpy driving feel at low speeds and a high frequency vibration at high speeds. Tires with this issue need to be replaced.

Tread Depth
The measurement of a tire that is at the end of its lifespan is 2/32 of an inch. If you don't have a tread depth gauge, there is a simple test you can perform to see if it is time to replace your tires. Place a penny in the tire tread at various locations around the tire with Lincoln's head facing down. If part of the head is covered, you are still in good shape. If you can see his entire head, it is time to replace your tires.
